Newburn Unit - T.S. Tyne
We are located in the old Mission Hall in Lemington, which is in the west-end of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne. This has been its base since 1943. The Units catchment area is mostly from the Lemington, Throckley, Newburn and Blaydon areas of the City.

At present the Unit compliment of youngsters is 31 Uniformed, 3 New entries and 14 Junior section cadets - all three comprise males and females. The roles of the staff, who are all local volunteers, and in three cases ex-cadets from the unit, consist of:

All youngsters are given the opportunity to gain qualifications within the unit, other units within the Northumberland District, at HMS Caledonia, Rosyth which is the Northern Area Training Establisment or National Royal Naval Establishments venues, in subjects such as:
Seamanship
Boating - Including nationally recognised qualifications from the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) and the BCU (British Canoeing Union). We are situated close to the Derwenthaugh Boat Station and therefore make full use of its facilities.
Adventure Training - Duke of Edinburgh, Camp Craft, Hiking, Map & Compass
Marine Engineering
Drill and Ceremonial (including piping)
Shooting (air, small, and full bore)
BTEC qualifications - 1st Diploma Public Services, 1st Diploma Engine Maintenance, 1st Diploma Music
